Tourists at Home

A Week From Today

The weeks have just flown by and now we are down to the last few days before we leave. We've been busy with all those pesky little details that must be done before leaving home for an extended period.

The mail has been suspended
Newspaper delivery stopped until further notice
CPW (stupid little $10/mo. bill that can't be paid on line) has been prepaid for 6 months
The elusive TV chair (has to be comfortable, fold-able, and lightweight) has been located and purchased...on sale too!

Jim has finished at work, I've got subs lined up.
All the RV mechanical things are Jim's dept. and he's done with them.

A few more chores left for next week...written lists are a good thing!

Meanwhile, we've been acting like tourists already...we're enjoying Charleston in it's finest season. . The spring blossoms have burst forth with a spectacular show this year. This week the dogwoods, azaleas, and wisteria have all hit their peak and the display of pinks, white and lavander is breathtaking. It's almost impossible to keep one's eyes on the road while driving in Summerville, which by the way, is also known as 'Flowertown'. Yesterday we toured Middleton Plantation, after 19 years here we finally went through the gates. It was worth it.

We walked, or more to the point, climbed the Cooper Rive Bridge on Thursday afternoon. It is a beautiful bridge and for the past two years we've never seemed to get around to walking over it...until Thursday. It's hard! And steep! The first mile or so is all uphill. I felt like I was at the cardiologist on the end of the treadmill test...and failing! However, we made it over and back, a little over 4 miles. Alive.

Trying NOT to be Pessimestic!

Late last summer when Jim started the 'I want to travel again' thing, I really tried to belive his optimism that gas prices would level off. Wrong! My pessimistic nature wins again. I half-kiddingly thought to myself that prices would spike shortly before our departure date to a *mind-boggling* $3 to $4/gal. Imagine.

So, we shall spend more to travel. It is what it is. We now are seriously contemplating not bringing the tow car (which is heavy) and perhaps just renting a vehicle when we need to. I has it's advantages and disadvantages, cost vs. freedom.

We shall see.

Departure is Saturday, April 5.
